Cargill

Commodities trading app

The challenge
Working closely with traders to redesign Cargill’s trading environment, using rapid Figma prototypes to bring the new UX vision to life and gather immediate feedback. Grounded in user insight, the redesign transformed complex legacy tools into an intuitive, efficient trading experience that reduced friction and drove real impact.

The client had previously been disappointed by other design consultancies that promised much but delivered little. This engagement provided an opportunity to demonstrate our ability to work closely with their trading team, understand their needs, and deliver a working prototype within weeks rather than months.

As part of the engagement, we travelled to Cargill’s offices in the Netherlands to run workshops aimed at understanding what would be required to adequately replace the existing.

Aware of the client’s prior frustrations, our goal was to deliver a relatively high-fidelity prototype as early as possible, using an iterative approach to progressively refine and enhance the design. Each week, we conducted workshops with different stakeholders to gather insights and present our proposed solutions, ensuring alignment and continuous feedback throughout the process.

My Responsibilities

  • Conducted user interviews and observational studies to gain a clear understanding of the design engagement’s objectives.

  • Drawing on prior experience designing trading applications, we rapidly created a semi-high-fidelity prototype that demonstrated how the app’s user experience and interface could work.

  • Regularly presented updated prototypes to stakeholders and traders, articulating new findings and functionality informed by user research.

  • These sessions helped participants align around the vision for the trading app and sparked productive discussions across cross-functional teams that had previously been working in silos.

  • This process continued through to the end of the engagement, leaving the client with a clearer understanding of how the new application could be envisioned.
